The Department of Psychology at Doon University, Dehradun, stands as a beacon of academic excellence and innovation in Doon University. Department of Psychology was established under School of Social Sciences in the year 2018, it has swiftly emerged as one of the fastest-growing departments, reflecting its commitment to providing high-quality education and research opportunities in the field of psychology.

Embracing the transformative vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the department took proactive steps to implement its guidelines in 2021, aligning its curriculum and programs with the policy's objectives. This included the introduction of the BA Psychology (Honors with research) program based on the NEP framework, ensuring that our students receive a contemporary and comprehensive education that prepares them for the challenges of the 21st century. The first batch of BA Psychology (Hons) based on NEP 2020 started in 2022. In 2023, 5 seats in the MA Psychology were increased to 25. In 2024, 5 seats in the MA Psychology were increased to 30.

Department’s Highlights:

  1. The syllabus of 4 years program- BSc psychology (Honours) is based on NEP 2020.
  2. The syllabus of 2 years of MA Psychology has been focused to enhance therapeutic interventions and skills related to counseling.
  3. Students are taught practical counselling skills under supervision of counseling psychologists.
  4. The department focuses on enhancing students' aptitude for research.
  5. The Department of Psychology also runs Happiness Laboratory, Centre for Wellness (counselling cell), Yoga Health Care Centre for the overall development of the students
  6. A club named Doon Sarathi, managed by students, organizes various extracurricular activities.
  7. To enhance students' counselling skills, subjects like CBT and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy etc. have been included in the syllabus.
  8. The syllabus for MA/BA includes UGC NET/JRF/SET/GATE topics to enable students to prepare for competitions alongside their undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
  9. UGC NET/JRF/SET/GATE classes are conducted for the students in the department.
  10. The department is currently conducting two research projects.
